Gawker.com writers are generally the bottom of the cesspool types. I say generally because I rarely waste time on the site so I've never had enough experience with them all to lump them into one stinking pile.

They pulled that story. They weren’t perfect, but no one is. And, if you did actually read the stories on Gawker, you’d know that they do make logical arguments and supply data that supports their quite rational arguments. But, you can keep parroting the other hypocrites who don’t agree with their point of view while extolling others using the same techniques to support a view you do agree with.

Denton pulled the story. Editors and other writers threw a hissy fit over it and some quit.
I’ll admit I don’t read a lot of their stuff because too much of it is crap or morally wrong. I shouldn’t have to sift through a bunch of crap to find a shiny coin. Too many of their stories seem to aim at destroying people they don’t agree with for whatever reason.
Of course none of the writers are as vile as most of their regular commenters.
